Today’s Horror Films Will Never Live Up to the Classics

Richard Justian, Staff Writer

The modern forms of horror movies lack any and all the charm of their classic counterparts.

Staples of modern horror include over the top gore,CGI & profanity for the sake of profanity. Supposed found films are an all too common genre among these films. An example of this is Paranormal Activity, which has a number of sequels that seem to be a copy of the original.

Gone are the days of Alfred Hitchcock, Vincent Price and Peter Lorre.

Films of equal quality as House of wax, House on Haunted Hill or Psycho will be few and far between for the foreseeable future.

Take Nosferatu, for example. Originally released in 1922 as a chilling and eerie adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a silent masterpiece of terror which to this day is striking and frightening. Then look upon The Conjuring,  which was released last year. It will fall into obscurity with only a select few remembering it had even graced the screens of movie theaters for a brief time.

The films of days past will always hold true, while the creations of this time will be forever subpar.
