Weedsport Music Industry’s First Annual Mayfest

This year marks the first of what may become a proud and exciting event for students here at Weedsport. The Music Industry classes, under the guidance of their teacher Mr. Brian Franco, will be holding Mayfest on May 15th at Auburn Public Theater. Mayfest will serve as one final performance to round out the year and show the families and friends of the performers what they have learned in class.

Mayfest will consist of three areas in the theater where different bands and individuals will perform sets of songs they have learned in Music Industry class. Spectators have their choice of either staying in one spot for the entire time, planning a schedule of performances they want to see for the night or just wandering around the area peeking in on performances. The stage areas will be managed by Zak Marshall, Dan Sears and Kaylee Walker. Their job is to change the setup of the stage for the different bands as well as regulate and manage the performers.

The performers are bands from the Music Industry and Music Industry II class and some solo acts and inter-band groups. The main stage will be the performance area for the Music Industry II bands, Coat Pocket, Too Many Decembers and Sector 3, as well as APT Battle of the Bands winner, Have You Heard?. The Music Industry I bands, such as Cameron & The Rippers and M.E.M will be performing on the Cafe stage, while solo acts will take place on the Cinema stage.

Tickets for this event cost three dollars and are currently being sold at the Auburn Public Theater building as well as on their website. Their box office hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as one hour before any event at the theater. Only 250 tickets will be sold and it is recommended that you purchase them beforehand as there are only a few being sold at the door. The event staff can be recognized by the green and yellow Mayfest shirts.
Mayfest also has an official poster and brochure, which is full of band bios, a map of the Auburn Public Theater building, a schedule of events and other useful information about Mayfest in order to make the event as enjoyable as possible for the audience.
