Ever since the birth of TV, the question of what age children should start watching it has always been debated. The only difference between then and now is the content shown. At the beginning it was just the news, then ads, then cartoons. All of these have evolved into something completely different. Along with the addition of sports, dramas and “soap operas” what is actually being shown has changed. Cartoons like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park show a lot of inappropriate content.

But cartoons are not the only things that have evolved. Shows like The Walking Dead have bloody and gory scenes that are not suitable for little children to see. While these shows are highly entertaining for teens and adults, it is not okay for children to watch. So the question is, what age do you let them switch from the age-appropriate cartoons to the more entertaining but inappropriate shows?

This opinion may vary depending on the person. This question has sparked fights between parents, parents and grandparents and even parents and children. This debate started at a relatively young age. Whether it’s because “their friends watch it” or they are “bored of their shows,” young kids want to do what grown ups do.

So again, the question is, when is it right for children to start watching these shows? There really is no answer. It is going to vary based on everyone’s views and on their perspective on not only their children but the show itself.
