The Fear of Death Within Us

The Fear of Death Within Us

Angela Hackett, Staff Writer

We all fear death, but for what reason? As we are born our life begins its own countdown until it reaches its peak and we go into an eternal sleep. Death should not be feared, but welcomed into our soul. Maybe we fear our eternal sleep because of what should happen next? Will we feel it? Where will we go? Will we stay in forever darkness? We ask ourselves these questions to get answers we know we can’t have.

Some say when you die your whole life flashes before your eyes one clip at a time, other say you see a light and can hear the ones you love. Then there are the ones that say you are consumed in the darkness, never to see the light.

Death is brought in many ways whether it be old age, murder, suicide, or even the most uncommon ways. You should have no reason to fear death as long as you have lived.  One of Mark Twain’s most famous quotes is, “The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.” So why are we so scared to embrace death with open arms?

We all know one day we’re going to die, that is no mystery: it all just depends on when.
