Domestic Violence in the NFL

Domestic Violence in the NFL

The recent talk about domestic violence in the National Football League has centered around the popular names of Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice. Often these two are looked at as role models for many people. However, as of right now, it’s almost a disgrace to say their names in public.

Rice was arrested after he knocked out his fiancée, Janay Palmer, in an Atlantic City hotel elevator. Rice was suspended indefinitely after the video of him knocking his fiancé unconscious was released.

Adrian Peterson turned himself into a police station where he was indicted for using a branch to spank his four year old son. Peterson is currently under review of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Rice and Peterson’s actions are not only affecting their NFL careers, but their actions are affecting future generations. If we perceive them as “role models” then why is Rice beating his wife and Peterson abusing his four year old son? Does the NFL want athletes and future athletes who abuse their wives and children?  There needs to be more strict rules put in place regarding their players’ activities outside of their facilities. Domestic violence needs to stop, not only in the NFL but everywhere.
