The very same night that The Walking Dead concluded it’s disastrous eighth season, the spinoff show, Fear The Walking Dead, was about to start its fourth season. After a great third season, the show seemed to be heading in the right direction, but a series of choices has made season four of this show a bit more difficult to watch.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you have not seen Fear The Walking Dead Season 4 so far or do not want it to be spoiled, turn back now. You have been warned!

The Crossover

For starters, the crossover event between TWD and FTWD is just a little disappointing. Morgan Jones (Lennie James), while he is a fan favorite character, has not been interesting or fun to watch on the parent show, so why move him to the spinoff?

That and it doesn’t fit with the timeline, as FTWD has to move its own timeline up 2 years in order to catch up with TWD to allow the crossover to occur, but the season three finale ended on a cliffhanger where the audience had to question who was alive and who was not. More logically, Morgan could’ve stayed on TWD and done Fear, explaining where he was between season 1, where Rick left him, and later on when Rick finds him again acting crazy and saying he needs to “clear” following the death of his son, Duane. Or better yet, Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) said shortly after his introduction that he was down that way, so why not just rehire Cudlitz to reprise his role, keep Morgan on TWD and give fans another chance to see the beloved redhead with crazy one liners?

Morgan leaving in itself doesn’t make sense. He leaves because of the fighting, but he leaves after the conflict is over and after they have established something at least sorta safe for everyone. And not only that but he goes from Virginia to Texas for no real reason. Which doesn’t make a ton of sense.

The crossover itself does have some interesting qualities to it because Morgan has been on a path to peace for a while, so maybe this group can change that mindset. Morgan actually has tried to pass on his path of peace to Nick Clark (Frank Dillane) but that storyline was cut short rather quickly.

The Latest Death

Last season saw the death of Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis), the deuteragonist of the show since it’s beginning as he was shot through the neck and bleeding. Before Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam Carey), the daughter of the series protagonist and Travis’ fiancé Madison Clark (Kim Dickens), could stop Travis from jumping from the helicopter they were all inside, Travis revealed a walker bite on his torso. Travis jumped to his death, knowing it was coming either way and his death shaped season three in a great way, allowing plenty of new storylines and relationships to develop in a positive light, but fans were shocked and saddened by his death.

This season of Fear has things play out similarly so it seems, as three episodes in, we have met a few new characters in this universe: Morgan Jones, Althea (Maggie Grace), and John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) and a major character has died. After preaching his path of peace, the story of Eastman, and even giving him Eastman’s book, Morgan seemed to be bonding with Nick in a good way that could open up the story to new possibilities, but this was short lived when Nick took it upon himself to kill a man named Ennis out of rage, something that Morgan tried to stop him from doing. Shortly after this, while looking at a flower that reminded him of his mother, Nick was shot in the chest by a little girl we met earlier in this season named Charlie (who viewed Ennis as a father figure) and he bleeds out as his sister, Alicia, his girlfriend, Luciana (Danay Garcia), and Stand (Colman Domingo) are all trying to help him, all three shocked by the loss. Alicia crying and screaming as he dies. This is the second deuteragonist in two seasons of the show to die and the results could be catastrophic. Nick was a major fan favorite on the show and his death has already caused an uproar on social media, with many saying they are done watching the show now or that they have no reason left to watch the show. While I myself am sad about the death of Nick, it does allow for some interesting storylines to open up and blossom, especially with Madison’s current whereabouts being unknown. How will she react to Nick dying? What will Luciana and Alicia do now that Nick is gone? Where is Madison and did Nick kill Ennis to get revenge for his mom maybe? Stay tuned and find out.
