“Blinded by Chains and Smoke:” Original Poetry

Jalen Flaherty, Staff Writer

Poem #1

You’re a strong one

that’s hard to find

so be strong in heart

and strong in mind

don’t crumble like the walls

protecting your heart

but steel replaced

and that was smart

but open up a little

there’s nothing you could give

other than your breath

and your power to live

Poem #2

“What are you afraid of?”

the man in the chair spoke

“I think we are blinded,

by the chains and the smoke”

“We speak of love

and forever goodbyes

but thinking peace can

be achieved as the soldiers die”

She linked her fingers

and hid her hair

“The bad things come as created,

and they are everywhere.”
