Regret: An Original Poem

Regret

you should see how he looks at me,
like I’m everything he’s ever wanted.
nothing like the way you did.

you watched me,
like I tore your life apart,
like I was beautiful + devastating all at once.
like I destroyed everything around me,
like the guilt should eat away at me.

you were exhausting,
+ he is not.
+ I know it would kill you to see the way he looked at me.

like I’m the only devastation he’s ever needed.
I thought you should know that.
