Editor’s Note: This is a brief look at the Japanese art of origami. The author, Eric Lin, will be starting a new segment on the Morning Report soon where he will be folding origami and students can follow along.

Origami

Ever wonder how people make these cool figures just by paper folding? Well, let me present the concept to you. Origami is the art of paper folding, where people make different kind of figures out of paper. Origami originated from Japanese culture, and the idea spread throughout the world as people started to admire their art. There is some origami that is difficult to make, and requires some practice. Others are really easy to create. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. Origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper.

Here are some videos for you to watch the art of origami-

Some of these might be hard for you to follow, but these are just some of the unique examples of what the art of origami could do. I will be showing you how to make different origami structures on the Morning Report once every week. You’re welcome to follow along. (Most of the origami I do will be easy to follow.)
