With the winter months upon us and the prospect of another long, cold winter ahead of us many people are finding it even harder to find things to do. Now that the holidays are over, winter seems pretty dreary and boring. This is a struggle that many people face so, members of the Johnny Green decided to put together a list of things to do to ensure you get the most out of the most drowsy time of year:

  1. Skiing

Skiing is an activity that is relatively popular among Central New Yorkers and many people don’t know about some of the awesome ski lodges we have around. You can ski down slopes, take lessons, and do other fun things like snowboarding and tubing. Some local ski lodges include Greek Peak in Cortland, Song Mountain Resort in Tully, and Toggenburg Mountain Ski Center in Fabius. Aside from that, you’ve probably been harassed about going relentlessly on the radio!

  1. Ice Skating

Another fun way to pass the time is ice skating! It’s a great way to spend time with friends and family while also getting a bit of exercise in. We have a variety of ice rinks to choose from in Central New York including the Clinton Square Ice Rink in Syracuse, Meachem Rink also located in Syracuse, Lysander Ice Arena in Baldwinsville, and Allyn Ice Rink in Skaneateles.

  1. Sledding

There are some great spots nearby for sledding. Behind the Auburn High School is a popular local spot for sledding. You also could go to Casey Park in Auburn for sledding as well. (They also have an ice rink for ice skating!) If you’re looking for a more accelerated version of sledding, the Greek Peak lodge offers more than just skiing. They also have tubing opportunities as well as an indoor water park that is open year-round.

  1. Movies

The winter months are a great time to visit local theaters and see new movies. Especially right now with some of the popular movie releases currently showing such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Pitch Perfect 3, Jumanji, and The Greatest Showman.

  1. Walking Local Trails

When the weather is a bit nicer and maybe a bit on the warm side, like around 40-50 degrees, it would be a great opportunity to bundle up and take a walk down some of the gorgeous trails we have around town. They offer a variety of winter scenerie that will make winter seem maybe not too bad!

We hope this condensed list helps in finding ways to pass the time this winter, and offers fun alternatives to sitting inside all day and being bored.
