Weedsport Welcomes Promising New Chorus Teacher this Fall

Jalen Flaherty, Staff Writer

This year at Weedsport Jr/Sr High School, students will be greeting a new staff member, Ms. Rachel Dentinger.

Ms. Dentinger is actually one of the first choral teachers to be added to the staff in years. “In high school, I actually played the saxophone and was in chorus, like everybody else,” said Dentinger. “I just decided to stick with it.” Dentinger graduated from Syracuse University with a Master’s Degree in music education and literacy education.

Ms. Dentinger loves making music with people and teaching people new things. She hopes to make some improvements to the High School Chorus. “We already have the chorus risers in here, and soon I hope to get some choral chairs to improve posture while singing,” Dentinger said. “I want to work on unifying our sound and also paying more attention to vowels and hopefully we will achieve a more mature sound,” she continued.

Also, another new addition to the school will be an A Capella group. A start date is still up in the air. she also said that she hoped this would get more people involved with chorus by making chorus a mandatory requirement in joining the group. “I think we should start small,” she said, “maybe do one song in the upcoming December concert and hopefully grow from there.”

Finally when asked how her experience at Weedsport had been so far she said “It’s been good. Although, I’m still trying to get to know everyone.” She said that she thinks that students are starting to warm up to her and that she is excited for the future.

The Johnny Green would like to welcome Ms. Dentinger to Weedsport!
