Pricey Palestinian Payoff

Jon Wejko, Staff Writer

If you follow politics, you will most likely know about the money given to Palestine. At the 11th hour of Barack Obama’s presidency, he attempted to send $221 million to Palestine. These funds have been frozen by President Trump, but this attempt has some very serious and extraordinary political implications. Palestine has been in a constant and costly war for land with Israel for centuries, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

Palestine, in its history, isn’t a nation anyone left or right would consider a model country. So let’s take some time and delve into the nitty-gritty of this conflict, and the reasons Obama felt it was a good idea to give a failing democracy, that has effectively turned into an autocracy, $221 million in taxpayer money.

Israel became a nation when Zionist Soldiers took land from Arabian forces in the 18th century. Israeli soldiers seeking a Jewish homeland chose Jerusalem and its surrounding lands. This sparked a conflict between the two nations, Palestine and Israel. This conflict has been on going for centuries, yielding very little success for the Palestinians. This has also led to the seizing of almost all land by the Israelis. The end of World War II was a major source of land gain for the new state, which gifted much of their territory, originally owned by native Muslims, by the allies. Even though Israel has emerged as the obvious victor, the Palestinians wouldn’t capitulate, leading to multiple conflicts over the decades. The most abhorrent of which is the fact Palestinians have resorted to terrorism to try to free their “stolen” land.

Our former president has decided to, in the final days of his presidency, fund this autocratic terrorist state. A government who has funded terrorist sects and organizations, could now be financed by the United States Government. Barack Obama has always been described as an innovator, a change that America needed. Now we can add openly funded violent terror organizations to the lists of firsts for Obama.
Now here’s the kicker: Israel is one of our most important allies in the Middle East. So not only does this show that the left wing is willing to throw our allies under the bus, but they are also willing to make things harder on our new president as he begins his entrance into political office. I won’t get too deep into it, but I vaguely remember a whole lot of blame falling on George Bush for Obama inheriting less than stellar economy.

To wrap this up, the Obama Presidency’s final moves as the leader of the free world is to create problems for one of the very few democracies we’ve been trying to establish for decades. This could all be torn apart by Obama’s indifference to Israel.
