A Sense We Don’t Appreciate
March 23, 2017
The noises that surrounds us, filled with all types of sounds: the quiet whispers of the children, the pencil tapping against the desk, the sound of the keys pressing into the keyboard. Noise that comforts us, such as the music that we love, the waves splashing against the shore, rain as it taps against the window.
These noises we love and tie to personal experiences, but what about the ones we hate, the ones we fear? The screech of nails on a chalkboard, the sound of footsteps lurking behind you, rusty door hinges creaking. These noises bring much discomfort. Each noise carries a different sound. They may sound the same, but they are not.
A slight unnoticed change to a different soundwave or volume. Each noise is different from the next, just like each person is different from another. Every day we hear millions of sounds, and half the time we never even notice, or pay attention. We often take for granted our hearing, not thinking much about it, nor appreciating what it does for us.
Some people go their whole life being deaf, while we sit here not thinking about how lucky we are to have such an amazing ability. Noise, it’s there from the start of our lives to the day we take our last breath. Between then, don’t take noise for granted, love it, appreciate it, and care for it, because many don’t get the same privilege as you.
