What’s on Your Christmas List: Xbox One or PS4?
As the holidays fast approach, many people will be buying or receiving a Sony Playstation 4, or Microsoft Xbox One or both of them. Both consoles have been talked about, compared, and anticipated since they were revealed at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) this summer. In the spirit of competition, I asked people which console they are getting or want to get, and why they prefer that console.
There were more people that wanted an Xbox One than I had anticipated. Timmy Reeves stated that he will probably be getting the Xbox because he is already used to the Xbox 360 and will be able to easily transition to the new console. Nathan Faulkner says he will be able to use his current headset with the Xbox One so he won’t have to buy a new one. Noah Corrado, and Robby Sickler both said that the Xbox One will have games released before the PS4 and that Xbox live is the superior online server compared to the Playstation Network.
The PS4 had more support from students. Al Decaro said he will remain with Sony, and get a PS4 because he grew up playing PS2 and is loyal to the company. Like Al, Aidan Daurghty said that he is just a PlayStation guy. Ashton Sheils said he just wanted the PS4 really bad. Lucas Snyder had a very strong standing against the Xbox One. He said that the PS4 is cheaper than the Xbox One ($100 less to be exact). He added that the controller will have a touch pad on it. Lucas Snyder also said that the PS4 games are free to share. Rian Gentile is another strong advocate of the PS4. He said that he doesn’t like how the Xbox’s controller feels and that he thinks the PS3 and PS4 are easier to use.
A few people chose neither of the consoles. Richard Justian said that he prefers the Nintendo 3DS because the PS4 and Xbox One have few games. Ryan Kirkpatrick says that the PC is his preference because it has a better online community, can have better graphics, and there are more mods for games.
Many students have chosen a favorite in the next-gen console war. Be it the Xbox One, PS4, or whatever else, the video game industry will keep prospering from competition. As for me, my opinion is that both consoles have their strengths and weaknesses, but I am not sold on one yet.
