Wolf of Wall Street Review
The Wolf of Wall Street is being talked about a lot lately, and with good reason. This film is a dark comedy that tells the true story of Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker in the early 90’s who managed to make over $200 million (illegally) over the course of a few years from unsuspecting investors.
The cast is very good and I feel nailed their roles. Leonardo DiCaprio played the role of Jordan Belfort (which he won a Golden Globe for the role). Belfort’s right-hand man, Danny Porush, was portrayed by Jonah Hill. Matthew McCoughney appeared for a brief time in the beginning as the role of Mark Hanna, a stock broker from a different firm that gave Belfort advice. The movie was directed by Martin Scorsese, and ended up being his longest movie ever, coming in at exactly three hours long.
The whole movie was like one giant party. At one point there was a midget tossing contest in the firm, and later on, Danny Porush (Jonah Hill) ate a goldfish out of a fishbowl that an employee was cleaning.
There were only a few problems with the movie. First of all, the movie doesn’t follow the order of the book. Having read the book before seeing the movie, I immediately realized that the first part of the movie is the second part of the book, but 20 minutes later, it begins to follow the order of the book.
Another concern is who watches it. There are some very raunchy parts in the movie and I can imagine that if I went with my parents to see it, they would have left. Also, another thing I noticed is who was in the theater when I went to see the movie. Nearly everyone watching the movie was a male from what I could tell ranging from 15 years old to 40 years old.
I can see the reason why though, it had everything guys like; money, nice cars, parties, and women. On that note I give this movie a 9 out of 10.
