A True Artist; Hannah Roden

As many people have noticed on multiple occasions, a single name always seems to appear on the marquee in front of Weedsport High School. Be it for All County Chorus, band, or the top three grade point averages in her class, Hannah Roden seems to be one of the most versatile students in Weedsport.

Along with her exemplary grades, she also has a passion for art. Most of her 10th periods are spent in the art room, working on projects until she can get them just right. A single glance at her works will prove that her hard work and particular eye have paid off. As a modest artist, Hannah says she does her art for herself and doesn’t care if people don’t like her art, as long as she’s content with it. She understands that art isn’t just about making people understand the idea behind the art, but also targeting the emotions that the art is meant to capture in the observer.

“Art is about putting your emotions so clearly into something [so] that other people can feel those feelings too,” says Hannah.

Katie Partlow, one of Hannah’s closest friends, agrees that Roden’s art reflects the passion she has for her pieces, as well as for the people she cares about. She doesn’t interact with a lot of people throughout the day, but the people with whom she does consort with are always a priority in her life.

Hannah Roden is currently a junior in Weedsport High School, and devotes her time to art, running on the track team, camping with her Venture Crew buddies, and having fun and spending time with her friends in Weedsport. As she creates more art, she hopes to reach a deeper meaning through it, as well as inspire others to look at things from a different perspective.

“I know this is just high school, and we just do projects for a grade and stuff, but I hope I can get to a point where I can make other people feel things through my art,” Hannah said.
