The Snow Castle of Kemi

The Snow Castle of Kemi

The biggest snow castle in the world is the Kemi Snow Castle! It was built in 1996 in Finland and is entirely made of packed snow and ice. This snow castle is rebuilt every single year and brings a smile on every visitor’s face! It’s open from late January to mid April.

This snow castle is twenty meters high and the longest wall is one thousand meters long! But there is more to this castle than you think, this winter wonderland has an entire ice kitchen and restaurant, a snow hotel, and a snow chapel! It even has an adventure land for kids and a nice theater for entertainment.

The ice restaurant has ice tables,  ice chairs with reindeer fur covers, and of course ice sculptures! The restaurant has a dining area and an island area with ice stools. There are also so many ice sculptures to accompany the amazing restaurant!

The snow chapel draws in couples from as far away as Hong Kong! There have been so many weddings in the snow chapel. It has fifty to one hundred seats inside the snow chapel, and there is even a honeymoon suite in the snow hotel.

The grand snow hotel has eighteen rooms that are twenty three degrees Fahrenheit. There aren’t any showers or bathrooms so there are special trips down to another building for that. The rooms are decorated by local artists. An example of the artwork is in some of the rooms there are carvings of swirling trees that serve as columns. People are advised to bring warm and layered clothing because of how cold it gets inside, even though the reindeer fur blankets help!

If parents aren’t interested in the adventure land they can take a break and head down to the theater to watch shows. There are dancers and opera singers always performing in the snow castle. There are even concerts and fun shows for the kids!

Take a trip down to Kemi, Finland for a chilly but exciting time! The snow castle has a great view  of the Gulf of Bothnia to go with your fun trip. This snow castle is perfect for everyone, as long as you don’t mind the cold weather!
