A Final Farewell From Our Managing Editor
As I sit here and write this story with a few tears rolling down my face, I can’t help but think of all of the great memories I have from The Johnny Green. I never thought I would enter into the field of Journalism, and if it wasn’t for the school paper, I probably wouldn’t have decided on doing so.
I wanted to be as involved as I could be in high school. Lots of times I would try something and it just wouldn’t be for me, but The Johnny Green changed all of that. It was the perfect fit. Quite honestly, I have never enjoyed doing something more in my life. I chose my career path because of all I have experienced as a staff writer and editor. I was offered the chance at so many wonderful things I would have not known about otherwise. I attended a week long Journalism Camp at SU, and also attended several other student conferences there. These experiences ultimately helped me decide that Syracuse was the school for me.
Just like anyone, I started small. I wrote a few articles here and there, and before I knew it I became the Features Editor my Junior year. Now I sit here typing my last article as a Managing Editor.
Earlier in the year I wrote an article about Senior Year being so weird, and how the end was approaching so quickly. Well, truth is, I blinked and now it is over. I know I should not be sad, but I am anyway. I wrote for the paper when we were a print edition, and I watched it grow to online last year, and develop even more this year. I could honestly not be more proud of everyone that I have worked with and all that we have accomplished. For such a small school we proved everyone wrong. We brought all we had and laid it out on the table. We kept the paper alive, and to me, that is the greatest thing we could have done. I have become such good friends with my fellow writers, and editors. I will never forget all they have done for me. So thank you to each of you for making it possible to be a part of something so great.
I would also like to say a huge thank you to Mr.Hay for being there with us through everything. Especially for helping me realize what I want to do in life. If it was not for him, and all of his support I would have been lost over the years.
Everything eventually comes to an end, and I guess it is time to say farewell to The Johnny Green. It has been one chapter of my life I will never forget, but now it is time to write the next chapter. I will be continuing at Syracuse University as an Orange, but I will never lose the Warrior in me. The Johnny Green will always hold a special place in my heart.
