This Holiday Season Will Be a Little Different
Even though the holiday season has arrived and Christmas is in a couple of days, celebrations and yearly traditions will be different this year. Covid-19 has changed our whole year and turned our lives upside down. We can only hope that this upcoming year will bring health and prosperity after a challenging year.
The holidays will be different this year as we aren’t allowed to have a large family gathering or parties with friends, and many normal holiday activities have been canceled. In Weedsport, the annual winter fest has been canceled due to safety regulations.
The Christmas show that Mr. Anderson and his class put together every year has also been canceled. Mr. Anderson said that there were a couple of reasons why: “The kids are not here every day, and it takes meeting every day to get the video done. The second reason is that with Covid-19, students aren’t allowed to be close together, which affects the filming process, and lastly, we can’t have the school watch it together in the auditorium.”
Mr. Anderson also said that there is a possibility of having a small informal Christmas show video that will be done by one of the groups in his class, and Mrs. Leonardi is also working on a USO show video.
While it might not feel like Christmas without our usual traditions, there are still some activities that we can safely participate in. A fun activity for all ages is Lights on the Lake. Another great activity is ice skating at Meachem ice rink in Syracuse. In Skaneateles, the Dickens Christmas has been moved to a virtual setting and can be found on Facebook and Instagram. More about that can be found at https://www.skaneateles.com/calendar/annual-events/dickens-christmas.
In Auburn, there is a Christmas Candlelight Tours at the Seward House.
With the big snowstorm we recently had, we can embrace the snowy weather by making snowmen, snow angels, and sledding. This extra time at home can be an opportunity to bond with our families.
Holiday Activities that can be done from the comfort of your home this year include: watching the Aura Christmas Pageant on youtube; checking out The Three Lakes Sampler for beautiful artwork and creative art pieces; baking holiday treats like pies, and drinking hot chocolate and eggnog!
The holiday season, especially Christmas, is about giving to others. With Covid-19, many families have struggled financially; many organizations can help provide families the support they need this holiday season.
