Meet Ms. Fiermonte
As you may or may not know, a new face has appeared at Weedsport High School. Our school’s newest addition is Ms. Fiermonte, who now teaches French 7, French 1 and Spanish 1, taking over Mrs. Massenzio’s position from last year. Ms. Fiermonte is thrilled to be the latest teacher at Weedsport, and looks forward to her career of teaching languages to our students.
Ms. Fiermonte is rather familiar with the district; she grew up in Auburn and had friends who graduated from WHS, and those were a couple reasons she was attracted to the idea of teaching at Weedsport. “It’s a really community-oriented school and town, I like it here,” she said.
Ms. Fiermonte studied Spanish in college so she could become a teacher, and is now strengthening her French, so she can do the best she can in the classroom. When asked why she chose to pursue a career in language, she replied, “I really liked it in middle school and high school, and then when I was a senior I went on a trip much like the one they’re doing here, I went to the Dominican Republic. Being there made me realize how useful it is to know Spanish, and being able to understand people,” she said. “That was what kind of pushed me towards wanting to learn more Spanish and then teaching it to other people.”
Ms. Fiermonte says that being at Weedsport is a much different experience than where she originally started out, adding that the student body and class size is bigger. “But so far I love it,” she added. “I’m learning a lot from the kids here and I’m excited to get to know everyone. It’s been a good first few weeks.”
She hopes on planning to stay at Weedsport, pointing out that it’s close to home, she has some friends here and that it’s cool to see what it’s like around these parts after she’s been away for a while.
We all wish Ms. Fiermonte nothing but the best here at our school, and it will be nice to have her here as a member of our community.
