On February 3, 2024, Weedsport students attended the annual NHS Semiformal Dance. This year the theme of the dance was the red carpet. At seven o’clock students showed up in their best dresses and suits ready for a night they will be thinking about until the next dance.
With prom now coming up, The Johnny Green interviewed some students to figure out where to shop, what the best color to wear is, hairstyles, as well as some tips for the night of and some students we thought were the best dressed.
Finding a good place to shop for jewelry, dresses, suits, shoes, etc. can be difficult especially if you don’t have a lot of time. Some Weedsport students were asked where they think the best places to shop this year were. “Windsor – but it depends. I would go on Shein for certain types of clothing, probably jewelry, accessories. Definitely try the mall or your local outlet or clothes store that you have and see if they have anything,” said freshman Carter Joyed. Kaylor Delapp shared similar opinions to Carter but also suggested Macys and Hello Molly for an online option.
Many students have hard times picking the best dress for them, whether it’s the color, style, or fit or the dress. Amelia Bradtke and Delapp share their opinions on what they like in dresses. “The best colors to wear would be colors that make you look good. Hot pink and blue are popular too,” said Delapp.
Tips:
Not too much makeup because you will sweat it off
Use face cream or good skin care the day of and before
Lotion your body
Bring other shoes if you don’t want your feet to be dirty
For prom get your makeup done and make changes afterwards if need be
No big lashes – clusters work best
Keep eyelash glue on hand if you do decide to wear lashes
Hair half up works best for prom because when down it gets knotty
Overall this year students expressed that their semi experience was great, but wasn’t what they expected. The main reason being not many people showed up or not many they imagined. Students also said they had a great time once they started dancing. Most freshmen stated they enjoyed the dance primarily because it was their first dance. Semi is definitely a great place to have a good time with your friends and get dressed up.
Weedsport’s Best Dressed for Semi:
Grace Barreto, Jaime Cady, Liam Dougherty, Lincoln Vincent, Ayla Stark, Keegan McNabb, Braden Wood, Gabby Jeffers, Carter Joyed, Madi Smith.
