The 2025 senior class at Weedsport will graduate soon, paced by this year’s valedictorian, Abby Bizzozero. Abby mentioned that earning valedictorian wasn’t her entire goal, but she knew she was in the running, so getting it was a giant achievement. Abby will head off to college in the fall to study education, leaving Weedsport with many great memories.
Starting in her freshman year, Abby joined her first musical, “Ensemble is good…but everyone wants to do more.” Her goal was always to get a lead, supporting, or even feature role, and she got exactly that; a small role in Guys and Dolls. Slowly building her way up, her sophomore year she was Minstrel in Once Upon A Mattress; junior year she was Mayor Matilda Hyde in All Shook Up; and this year, her senior year, she played the main role of Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors. Her progress was quick and successful. She’s rarely had a bad year in parts or roles and acted out every single one with lots of passion.
Abby has also taken interest in bowling. Starting in 2021, Bizzozero has been a part of the Weedsport girls bowling team. She scored the highest in girls bowling with a 196 back in 2023. It was the highest score since the bowling started, and she was named MVP.
Heading into college Abby hopes to become as an ELA teacher, “I’ve always liked the class… Mrs. Weston always pushed me to understand it.”
Abby took her chances with ELA, and with teacher help and general understanding Abby became more involved. One project included an interview, and she took the chance to do Mrs. Austin herself, asking what it’s like to be a teacher and how to prepare over breaks, “How do you plan out your lessons, summers… she explained everything and I was like, I could do that.”
Abby plans to follow in Mrs. Austin’s steps, aiming for the curriculum she has but more Abby, “I love Shakespeare… I wanna do it…You act out scenes, draw…I wanna do that to make things more interesting.”
Many teachers have even told Abby that they’d love to have her as a potential co-worker here at Weedsport and she couldn’t be happier. Bizzozero describes the community here as very welcoming and nice and she would not back down for an opportunity to come back.
This year’s valedictorian, bowling MVP, musical star, and a student with a genuine love for education and ELA will be leaving a huge mark on Weedsport.
