The Wait: Possibly the Worst Part
Well now that I have applied to the colleges of my choice, a big weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. One would think that I could be relaxed now, but it is the exact opposite.
Usually I am a very patient person, and I do not get angry when I don’t have an answer to something right away, but it is so different for me with the college process. I have become such a very impatient person. I actually am very annoyed at how long it takes a college to get back to me.
Granted I understand that they have thousands of applications to review, but I still just really want an answer. After all, this is my future we are talking about here.
I have applied Early Decision, so that has smoothed out the process for me a bit. For those of you who do not know Early Decision is a binding agreement with a college. If a student is sure he/she really wants to attend a college, they have the option of applying ED.
Basically, you apply like anyone else would apply for rolling admissions, but you sign a contract, and hand in your application at an early deadline. Hence the name ‘Early Decision.’ The contract just states that you will not apply to any other school under ED, and if you get accepted to their school you have to attend there, and decline any other acceptance letters that you receive. This option has many benefits, because you can save on application fees, since you have your acceptance before other deadlines arrive, and you can enjoy the rest of your Senior year!
Early decision is not for everyone, but it was for me. I have my heart dead set on a college, and the earlier I can find out the better. The contract is a two way contract. It also states that the college must give you their decision before January 1st. So as of right now it is just a waiting game. I check my email, and my mail everyday waiting for a letter!
I am sure I am not the only one who is getting impatient with waiting, but there is not much we can do. As of right now, I think the best thing we can do is just keep at it, and stay focused!
Good luck to all of the Seniors who are waiting for their acceptance letters. I feel your pain.
