What's it Like to Plan a Prom?

Prom.  It’s a time of dancing, dresses, tuxedos, decorations, drama and crowns.  These are the only things that most people notice, but not many know just how stressful it can be for the people who plan the prom to bring it all together in the end.

Jordan Lally is currently a junior and fellow Johnny Green writer who knows just how overwhelming prom can be behind the scenes.  Jordan was one of the few forces in planning the 2014 Junior Prom, and when asked what it was like getting ready for the dance, she replied, “It was really, really stressful.  There were only a few, about four, of us who were really willing to help.  There were a lot more people who wanted to criticize than help plan.  You can’t really listen to them though, because you’re doing your best and putting in a lot of effort so that’s all anyone can really expect.”

Being an officer of the Sophomore Class, I can agree with Jordan on the criticism.  Even in the smallest of fundraisers people don’t want to help, seem to have something else going on that gets them out of it, or they complain as to why something is the way it is.  All of these things can concentrate the need to get things done on just a small group of people.  Things usually turn out just as planned in the long run.

“After all the planning, things turned out really well.  When the Hilton was all done being decorated it looked awesome.  We had the red carpet out and there were balloons everywhere, and after the dance was over we kind of just…let our breath out.  After-prom took it from there and the whole night was a lot of fun.” Jordan added.

It’s nice to hear that another prom has gone by successfully, and hopefully all the other upcoming classes will be able to have just as much fun as this year’s juniors did.
