WHS Softball Chases Perfection With Great Start to Season

After losing in the first round of Sectionals last season, the Weedsport Varsity Softball Team has roared out to a 8-0 record to start the season, lead by the Senior combination of Abby Marsden and Nina Kowall.

Kowal, has been the “lady behind the plate” for the Warriors, playing her final season grabbing the softball for pitcher, Marsden, one of the top performers in the section.

Marsden, who has taken most of the duties on the pitching mound, is looking to have an even better season than last. She concluded her all-star season last year with 172 strikeouts, and an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 1.032 (for ERA, the lower the better).

The girls have already started their season, with a 6-4 win over the Cato-Meridian Blue Devils, with the win going to Marsden on the mound, and many other games. The girls are 8-0, with their most recent win against Tully. Their next game is May 9, at the Cayuga County Tournament.

“I feel we are in for a very successful season,” said Donahue. “We are looking forward to the next two months of softball!” The season looks bright for the ladies, as they look to go even further into sectionals and maybe claim that so wanted Sectional Title.
