Review of Black Veil Brides The Wretched and Divine

Angela Hackett, Staff Writer

The Wretched and Divine album, and movie “Legion of the Black,” was created by Black Veil Brides, a band that consists of 5 guys. Andy Biersack, the lead singer, Christian Coma, also known as CC, who plays the drums, Jeremy Ferguson, (aka) Jinxx, who is on guitar, Jake Pitts, who also is on guitar, and bass player Ashley Purdy make up the band.

The Wretched and Divine album is about an alternate universe of a  rebel group called the Wild Ones who fight against f.e.a.r which stands for “for everyone and all religion.”  f.e.a.r is trying to take away all creativity and convince people that f.e.a.r can keep them safe. In reality, the story is by a girl, Eve Black  who isolates herself from the world around her by listening to music and drawing. One day Eve gets in a fight with her parents about a drawing, and she is sent to a mental hospital. Eve struggles and just wants to die, so in order for her not to go crazy she creates this alternate universe inside her head which is about the rebels and f.e.a.r.

The Wretched and Divine album is made up of 19 songs all written by Black Veil Brides. All the songs in Wretched and Divine are in the movie “Legion of the Black.”

In the movie, the rebel leaders all have their own code names which give you more of an understanding of what position they play in the movie. Andy Biersack plays “the prophet,” which is a person who proclaims the will of God. Christian Coma plays “the destroyer.”  Ashley Purdy plays “the deviant,” someone who plays way off of the social norms.  Jake Pitts plays “ the mourner,.”  Jeremy Ferguson plays “the mystic,” which is a person that has spiritual knowledge or experience no one understands.

This album Wretched and Divine and movie “Legion of the Black”  are amazing. They show you that it’s okay to be different and to stand up for what you believe in.
