Acceptance: An Original Poem

Acceptance: An Original Poem

Angela Hackett, Staff Writer

Being accepted is your choice

We are who we are

It’s seen in black and white

It’s just the matter of accepting ourselves

We expect people to accept us

But how can they accept you

When you don’t accept yourself

Everyday we put on a mask

Because this society tells us we

Have to be perfect

Act perfect, look perfect

But we are not perfect

We are different,  we are not normal

Normal is a setting on a washing machine

Why would we want to be that?

people expect everyone to be

Happy

Laugh, and smile

But we are different

Some don’t smile instead cry

Some are not happy, but sad

Some do not laugh for they have no voice

In reality being accepted is in your hands

Whether you choose to accept it

Or not
