Kendall Jenner, at only age nineteen is breaking away from her family’s reality TV show roots and making a name for herself through modeling. That name is just Kendall, not Kendall Jenner or Kendall Kardashian. Those last names have not given her any sort of advantage in her modeling career.
Being already known as a celebrity, agencies would turn her down or have higher expectations for her to live up to. Due to this she is abandoning her family name. Kendall isn’t being chosen to model based on her ties to the Kardashians or Kanye. In a recent article written by The New York Times’ Riccardo Tisci, the man that interviewed Kendall for the Givenchy show stated, “I didn’t do it because of my links to her sister or to Kanye, as everyone seems to believe. I only chose Kendall because I thought she was amazing; a striking, dark, edgy beauty, exactly the way I like them.”
At this point she may not be as recognized as her older half-sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney who hog the spotlight on their numerous TV shows, but she is taking matters into her own hands to fulfill her dreams. Kendall also asks her family to not attend her shows so that the attention is not drawn to them and stays on her.
With the work Kendall has already put into her career she has been seen on runways in New York City, Paris, London and Milan. She also has been seen in several magazines including Teen Vogue and will surely appear on many more in the future.
Kendall is a role model to young girls and women. While interviewing Sophomore Mikayla Grennell, she said “Kendall Jenner is an inspiration to girls because she is young but she wants to make a name for herself and not rely on her family to do it.” Regardless or her family’s wealth that she could have taken advantage of, she has the drive to prosper on her own in a difficult business to fulfill what she refers to as a lifelong dream.
